The charming Peony captures the heart of all flower lovers every year thanks to its wonderful scent and luscious looks. This seasonal flower is very much an indication of summer, as its availabilty period is limited which means the flower is much sought after. The Peony originated in China but in 1784 it found its way to Europe. In those days the Peony was not only cultivated for its flower but also for its special roots. If you are to believe the Chinese, the Peony can be used to reduce medical issues such as fever and blood clot.

The Peony is a very popular wedding flower, this is not only because of its good looks and smell but also because of its symbolism. The Peony symbolises love, happines and health. The Peony begins as a small bud but by the end of the week it will have blossomed out into a beautiful large flower. Below is a step-by-step guide to how to best care for your Peonies.
- Use a clean sharp knife to diagnolly cut 2-5cm off the stem.
- Use a clean vase and fresh water.
- Add Chrysal flower food to the water to ensure a longer vase life.
- Don't place the flowers in direct sunlight or near a fruitbowl.
- Peonies drink a lot, be sure to top up the vase with fresh water.
