GERBERA: APRIL'S FLOWER OF THE MONTH 

As April begins we mark Easter, it is a month filled with joy and happiness. The perfect setting for a colourful flower. After the Easter celebrations the wedding season slowly starts up so April is the perfect period for a cheerful flower like the Gerbera.

 

 

THREE FACTS ABOUT THE FLOWER OF THE MONTH

  • The Gerbera is the birth flower. Its presence means that you make everything more beautiful. With its sunny, colourful appearance it makes your home a much warmer and welcoming place.
  • The Gerbera is an unscented flower which is part of the Asteraceae family.
  • The Gerbera originates from South Africa, Asia, South America and Tasmania. Around 900 million Gerberas a year are now produced in the Netherlands with 600 varieties of shape, colour and size.

 

THE GERBERAS COLOURS, SHAPES AND SIZES

The Gerbera is known for being a colourful flower,there are many different colour Gerberas. The basic colours are white, red, yellow, pink, purple, orange and green. The Gerbera is also available bicoloured, multicoloured and various shades derived from the basic colours. The flowers heart can be found as black or green, meaning when it comes to the Gerbera there is plenty of choice for colour! The Gerbera has a cheerful shape, single and double flowered, pom-pom and spider shaped. The Gerbera is also an unscented flower. 

 

CARING FOR YOUR GERBERA

  • Using a sharp knife trim the stem diagonally.
  • Fill a clean vase with tap water at room temperature. Use cut flower food for mixed bouquets.
  • Ensure the temperature does not exceed 20 °C.
  • Do not place gerberas in a draught, in full sun or near central heating.
  • Add fresh tap water to the vase regularly.
